What Is Circumcision?
Supporting Parents On Their Baby’s Circumcision Journey
Circumcision is a simple surgical procedure that involves the removal of the foreskin—the fold of skin covering the head of the penis. Circumcision is often chosen for cultural, religious, or personal reasons, and it may also offer certain medical benefits, such as improved hygiene and a reduced risk of some infections. At The Circumcision Doctor, we ensure the procedure is performed safely, gently, and with expert care.
The Circumcision Procedure at The Circumcision Doctor
At The Circumcision Doctor, our NHS GPs perform circumcisions using the Plastibell® technique, a safe, effective, and minimally invasive method that is widely trusted for infants and young children.
The procedure itself is quick, hygienic, and virtually painless thanks to the use of effective local anesthesia and gentle techniques. This ensures minimal discomfort and bleeding for the baby. After the procedure, we provide clear aftercare instructions and ongoing support to promote fast, healthy healing.
Whether for infants or children, we are committed to delivering expert circumcision care in a respectful, confidential, and compassionate environment.
What is the Plastibell® Technique?
The Plastibell® method involves placing a small plastic ring over the head of the penis, under the foreskin. The ring acts as a protective barrier and gently stops blood flow to the foreskin tissue, which then safely detaches within 7 to 10 days, along with the ring.

How Long Does the Circumcision take?
At The Circumcision Doctor, we aim to provide a smooth and reassuring experience for both parents and children. While the circumcision procedure itself is relatively brief, typically taking only 10 to 30 minutes, we kindly ask families to plan for a total visit of approximately 1.5 hours at our clinic.
This time includes a thorough pre-procedure assessment by our experienced doctor to ensure your child is healthy and suitable for circumcision on the day. Following the procedure, we continue to monitor your child for around an hour to ensure everything has gone as expected and that initial recovery is progressing well.
Please note: If your baby has received a routine immunisation, we require a minimum 7-day gap before performing the circumcision. This is for safety reasons, and we appreciate your understanding when scheduling your appointment.
